Lucy Goes to the Dentist

Lucy was excited and a little nervous to go to the dentist. She is now very into brushing her teeth. She also loves the mask that she got out of the dentist treasure chest.

Charlie 14 Week Update

Charlies 2 month stats:
Weight: 12 lbs 7 oz (54%)
Height: 23.03 inches (51%)
Head: 15.35 inches (46%)

Milestones:  Charlie is all about his social smiles.  It makes it difficult to keep his nuk in his mouth when he keeps on smiling!  He has found his hands and stuffs them in his mouth constantly which is also leading to some increased drooling and wet onsies.  Charlie does a great job keeping his head up and looking around during tummy time but no rolling yet!  He has started swatting at toys when laying on his back and he's happy to tell you a story anytime you ask.  Charlie is also starting to enjoy books.

Sleep: This kiddo is pretty darn consistent in the sleep department.  He's out by 9-9:30 and wakes at 5 am.  This actually works out perfectly on my work days as I can feed him and then either put him back to sleep or just have him hang out while I pump and eat.  It's not so fun on the weekends or days off..but sometimes I can just put his nuk in every 20 minutes or so and he'll make it til 6 or 6:30 am.

Highlights:  Since our posts about vacations, Kerry has returned to work.  She has almost 2 full weeks back under her belt and the dust seems to be shaken out of the brain.  Isaac has spent some time home with Charlie while Lucy goes to daycare and Charlie even had his first day with Paula earlier this week.  He had so much fun, he forgot to take his long nap!  Now that Kerry is working and has no vacation time til fall, we are learning to "staycation".  We've had many fun adventures in La Crosse: Dragon Boat races at Copeland Park, Moon Tunes on Thursdays, Orange and Green Park playtimes on Tues/Thurs/Weekends, Interstate Fair, and a camping trip across the river planned.

Sibling moments:  Lucy continues to hold Charlie every day, although this only lasts about 30 seconds.  She has learned how to finesse his nuk into his mouth which could come in very handy!  Charlie loves to smile at Lucy and she tries to get him to grab her finger or toys that are way too big for him.  Lucy tries to read Charlie books but it usually turns into her just taking his books and reading them for herself.

Lucy Quotes during July 2017

Lucy has been adjusting back to a routine from our week in the Tetons and our week up North.  Here sleeping routine is messed up, and this kid likes to sleep, so she's been a bit cranky.   Thus...

Tonight on the ride home from Paula's with Dad, Lucy asked if Mom would be home.  When I replied yes, she said "I don't want to see her."  You should know that after Lucy got settled in this evening she told Mom that she misses her everyday that Mom is at work.

Lucy zinged me too tonight.  During dinner I was helping her eat.  She looked at me and said she was sad.  I asked her why she was sad.  She said "I'm sad because you're around here."  Ouch.  Kerry clarified that she was sad that I was near her plate, not that I exist.  Phew!

Up North Lucy was taking a bath.  Lucy made an exciting scientific discover... "I tooted and it made bubbles!"

Later that night I was waiting for Lucy to come down the stair to go to bed.  She stood at the top of the stairs and said "Come here Dad and carry me you old goof."

And here are a couple of pictures from an evening with friends at the Zabrowski's.

Potty Training is in Full Swing

We all have been working hard on potty training, but haven't seen a ton of success. So Kerry did a personality survey for Lucy. She is an internalizer and wants to watch and study before doing. This makes a lot of sense - this is how Lucy is with a lot of things. So Friday night we showed her some videos and songs about using the potty. She loved them so much that we watched them for over 2 hours at her request (what else do we have to do on a Friday night anyway?).  In the last 2 days, there have been some successes.  All we have read says to be patient and expect accidents, which we are doing and seeing, but progress is being made!

A Week Up North

We enjoyed a week up at Grandma and Grandpa Hyland's.  It was a great way to wind down Kerry's maternity leave (she goes back Friday, 7/7/17).  We started the trip by celebrating some birthday's.  Isaac took Matt Ironside out to lunch, and we had dinner and cake with Uncle John.  Lucy enjoyed a lot of wildlife, a treasure hunt, driving the boat, a visit to Auntie Lou and Uncle Cooky's, paddleboarding with Mom and Dad, and splashing in the lake.  She was also gifted the original (1992?) Hyland Pelican Paddleboat.  While Lucy was enamored with it, she was frustrated that she couldn't reach the pedals.  Luckily on our voyage, a family of ducks interrupted her tantrum.  Charlie also enjoyed the trip.  He laid around the most, but that's what 11 week olds do.  Laying locations included the kitchen table, the hammock and on the dock in an infant tent.

Sully, yes Sully, swimming in the water to "save" us.
Lucy's first paddleboard ride.  She preferred sitting, as when she stood, she didn't quite understand the concept of staying in the middle of the board.  No one fell in, but there were some close calls.

 Yes, Charlie was also there.

Lucy enjoyed driving the boat with Grandpa and looking for loons with Grandma.

 Hanging out on the dock!
Splashing!  Stay tuned for a video of Grandpa nailing Lucy in the face with water!
