Johnny's Graduation Trip part 3
Johnny worked hard to bring in this Rainbow Trout...took close to 10 minutes to land it!
This was Kerry and Isaac's first time fly-fishing. Kerry caught a pretty trout...Isaac took some pictures and almost caught some fish ;)
The Grizzlies shut down one of our original planned hikes to Iceberg Lake so we did the Grinnel Glacier hike instead.
Super cool glacial lake at the base of the Glacier. There were ice chunks floating in it; it was the coldest water we've felt to date.
Mountain love.
Our last night of the trip. We did some viewing of grizzlies from a safer distance than usual and had a delicious meal in the lodge dining room. Great trip Johnny!
Johnny's Graduation Trip part 2
A super rad hike to Sentinel Pass out of Morraine Lake. We had to get to the parking lot by 5:45 am for this one. Johnny was a trooper.
360 views...where to even look?!
Mountain high!
Morraine Lake-on our list to come back to.
This spot was partially Johnny's inspiration for the Banff trip. We had to spend a little time searching for this unmarked spot-Johnston Canyon Cave. So cool!
Johnny is really mastering his camera skills.
Highlights of Johnny's Graduation Trip Part 1
A while back we told Abbey, Johnny and Maddie that we would take them anywhere in the country for a graduation trip as long as it partially involved camping and a national park. Johnny decided on the Canadian Rockies; primarily Banff (cue the gleeful whoops as Isaac and I love that region). Here are just some of the high lights.
We found a place to set up hammocks in Waterton National Park after 23 hours of driving. Isaac was quickly sawing logs.
Looks like we are balancing on a cliff! This is the incredible view from the Prince of Wales Hotel.
Prince of Wales Hotel. We had a lakeside room with a killer view. We also got one of the best nights of sleep I can remember in the past 3.5 years of my life.
Upon arriving to Banff, Kerry and Johnny headed to Lake Louise for a sneak peak of the next morning. Hard to believe, but this picture was taken at 9pm.
1st and Last Day of School-Lucy
Camp Hyland
While Mom and Dad took Johnny on his graduation trip, Lucy and Charlie got to stay at Uncle John and Aunt Molly's house. We've come to refer to this time as "Camp Hyland". Lucy and Charlie had a wonderful time and we never had to worry a bit about them. A BIG thank you to all the Hylands!
Upon arriving to Stevens Point, the kids score mac n cheese at Noodles! Yum!
Look like she likes it!
Charlie got some fun ingredients to play with in the kitchen.
He even got to spread some shaving cream around! That's way more fun than Mom's kitchen!
Look how nicely they can play together!
Nothing beats a good box!
The box lasts and entertains for days.
Lucy was treated to her first haircut. She looks so big!
The bottomless pit.
Trying out some pilates equipment.
Charlie 16 Months Update
Vocabulary (New words): A big change is using 2 word combos. I'm missing several but here are some examples:
Thank you
Bye Paula
Take this
Favorite foods: Veggies have been a big hit lately. Isaac does a good job of even giving him veggies for breakfast. Cold broccoli and carrots for breakfast??? Yuck if you ask me.
Milestones: WALKING!!! Aunt Molly was about 30 minutes from coming to pick up Charlie and Lucy for "Camp Hyland". Charlie stood up in the middle of the living room and walked 1/2 across it. He still has to be coaxed into walking, but he certainly has been holding out! We were glad to witness his first true independent steps with his own free will!
Sleep: No changes; he's still a 2 nap a day kiddo.

Another huge step was graduating away from the bottle for milk. We decided to go cold turkey upon getting back from vacation. Charlie has been a champ about it!

Charlie 15 Months Update
The stats from the 15 month well child check:
Length: 30.9" (34%)
Weight: 23.59 lbs (61%)
Head circumference: 18.7" (65%)
Vocabulary (New words):
Sock
Shoe
Neigh
Moo
Stuck (his favorite which he uses in several accurate contexts, especially when he's "stuck" in his highchair for meal time.)
Milk
Walk
Lucy (It doesn't contain an "L" sound but it definitely is a distinct word that means Lucy).
Truck
Favorite foods: We discovered (in more ways than one) that Charlie loves any and all types of beans. I'm just not a fan of dealing with 4 poopy diapers a day, so we've needed to pump the brakes on that one.
Milestones: There is still no official walking, but we have tricked Charlie into taking up to 4 steps on his own. Now he's onto our tricks and demands to have a handhold for any walking. He would likely walk for miles with a hand though and he far prefers to be walking than crawling. He also started standing up in the middle of the room. I have a feeling that when he does start walking on his own, he will be at a mastery level and we'll need to be on our toes. Grandma Hyland taught him how to climb his slide one day and now he does the complete sequence on his own and safely (something that took Lucy close to a year it seems)!
Sleep: Bed time is still 6:30 and wake up is 6-7am depending on how much noise is being made in the house in general. The inconsistent part is how the 2 naps shake out. Sometimes a monster nap occurs in the morning and then the afternoon nap is more a play and cackle in the crib session.
Ways to describe Charlie: Looking back, I said that Charlie was "laid back" at the 12 month update. I would now trend towards "headstrong". Charlie knows what he wants and makes that clear in one way or another. Within 1 day of our Smokey Mountain trip, Maddie stated that "Charlie is by far your most difficult child". Charlie continues to be giggly and joyful as well. He is full of snuggles and love which Isaac, Lucy and I all thoroughly enjoy.
